APPLICATION OF REM
Providing the country's economy with rare and rare-earth metals is critical to national security and is an important condition for the modernization of industry in the Russian Federation.

The rare-earth group consists of 17 elements including yttrium, scandium, lanthanum and 14 lanthanides. The most commonly used rare earth elements are "light" - lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium and neodymium, less often "medium" (samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium) and even less "heavy" (erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium)

There are dozens of areas for the efficient use of rare earth elements, both in the military and civilian industries. Fast-growing REM applications are related to the production of hybrid cars, wind turbines, defense equipment, telecommunications, computer and television equipment, lasers, superconductors and fuel cells.

The main areas of use are the production of magnets, catalysts for oil refining and petrochemicals, catalytic blocks for car exhaust gas neutralizers, polishing powders, glass (including optical), phosphors and ceramics. In metallurgy, rare-earth metals are used to increase the strength, anti-corrosion and heat-resistant properties of alloys. In the glass industry, compounds for coloring and discoloration of glass, in particular, praseodymium oxide gives a pale greenish-yellow color, neodymium oxide gives a purple-pink color.
